Words Jeremy Nicholas

"This young Dutch violinist (born in 1985) acquired an impressive CV and a number of important competition wins before she completed her studies at The Royal Academy of Music, where she was the youngest student ever to enter the Bachelor of Music course. On this evidence alone she can look forward to an equally impressive career. She has a sweet tone and direct manner that touch the heart.
After her idiomatic performance of the Violin Sonata, spaciously recorded at Potton Hall and attentively partnered by Yurie Miura, Lamsma offers a rarely heard collection of 11 early Elgar miniatures in their original forms (Chanson de nuit & Chanson de matin among them). Nothing is sentimentalised and the music's period charm is allowed to speak for itself, though there is more wistfulness to be had from Idyll and more sheer playfulness from La Capricieuse. But Lamsma is clearly a talent to watch."
