The cadenza had more nuances of expression than most recordings, and she always applied the perfect touch of emotional momentum to a piece that can become static and meandering in the wrong hands.
When she finished, the audience was on its feet, with lots of foot stomping, clapping and bow waving on stage, which was good for four curtain calls. Plus, we got an encore, the quiet, meditative "Sarabande" from Bach's D minor Partita, very reminiscent in its own way of parts of the Shostakovich. It was delivered with the same gracious elegance that characterized her stage presence, yet another reminder that we were in the presence of a major talent whose budding career already appears to be distinguished.....”

“SIMONE Lamsma took what might seem a bold step in presenting Shostakovich’s pithy Violin Concerto No 1 as her debut with the BSO. However the long-breathed, sombre Nocturne won enormous respect for her confident, intellectual sobriety.
The Scherzo’s slashing strokes glinted against the wind ensembles mellifluous playing, the composers DSCH monogram adding to the rhythmic energy.
Lamsma’s intensely poignant Passacaglia against both tuba and pizzicato strings plus a slow cadenza that evoked, so appropriately on Wednesday, the lone trumpet of silent battlefields was emotionally awesome. The finale displayed a brilliance in which the barbs of warfare were delivered with electrifying virtuosity.
Her encore, the Andante from Bach’s Sonata No 2, reflected intensity similar to the Shostakovich Nocturne.....”

“Violiste Simone Lamsma schitterde gisteravond in Night of the Proms. Deze reeds internationaal gelauwerde jonge Burgumse wist met haar virtuoze, maar ook fijnzinnige vioolspel waarin ze elke noot loepzuiver uit haar instrument toverde, de aandacht naar zich toe te trekken. Met de Hongaarse dans no.2 gaf ze voor de pauze meteen al haar visitekaartje af. De wijze waarop ze de virtuositeit en daarnaast ook de weemoed, kenmerkend voor de zigeunermuziek waarop dit werk is geënt, op het publiek overbracht was ontroerend mooi. In Liebesfreud en Tambour Chinoise van Fritz Kreisler deed ze er nog een schepje muzikaal genot bovenop. Met haar vertolking van de Carmenfantasie, met melodieën uit de gelijknamige opera van Bizet, gecomponeerd door Pablo de Sarasate, oogstte ze niet alleen een open doekje, maar kreeg na het spelen ervan een staande ovatie. Zo mooi hoor je dit werk niet vaak gespeeld. Haar podiumoptreden wist ze zeer goed bij de te spelen werken aan te passen.”
